PM Modi speaks to Trump; reviews trade, defence, India-US ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, with the two leaders reviewing progress in India-US cooperation across trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas of mutual interest.
Describing the conversation as “productive”, Modi said the two leaders agreed to remain closely engaged to take the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership forward.
“Had a productive conversation with President Trump. We reviewed our bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas,” Modi said in a post on X.

Global peace, security also discussed
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including ongoing efforts to promote global peace and security, according to the Prime Minister's Office.
“Both leaders agreed to remain in touch,” the PMO said in its readout.
India-US trade talks in focus
The phone call comes as India and the US continue negotiations on a proposed bilateral trade agreement.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is currently in the US for talks aimed at advancing an interim trade deal and broader negotiations.
The discussions between Modi and Trump covered several strategic areas, with the official readout stressing continued engagement to deepen cooperation for the benefit of people in both countries.
