PM Modi pitches for popularizing football in India on Mann Ki Baat
New Delhi, Mar 27 (IBNS): Delivering his 18th Mann Ki Baat address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said football should reach every corner of the country.
"India had a good run in football earlier but that is not the case now. Our rankings are also very low," PM Modi said during his monthly radio address.
"I see that our youth is enjoying football like EPL. We should take football reach every corner of the country," he said.
Modi said FIFA U-17 is a great opportunity for taking football to every part of the country including villages.
"Due to the tournament that we are hosting, we will get an opportunity to create good sporting infrastructure also," the PM said.
"I want that every youth of my country will be the ambassador for FIFA Under-17 World Cup," said Modi.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the Indian cricket team for their wins against Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He also conveyed his best wishes for the match against Australia on Sunday.
