Srinagar, Mar 18 (IBNS) The Indian army on Friday claimed to have gunned down two militants in Handwara of Kupwara District of Northern Kashmir.

Officials said, Police and Army launched a massive search operation in Bhat Mohalla of Handwara after receiving inputs about presence of some militants in a house.

“When our party tried to dominate the cordon, militants opened fire on the search party from automatic weapons, which resulted in a fierce gun battle that left two militants dead,” a police officer said.

He further said firing is still on in the area and it seems more militants are inside the house.

Meanwhile,  an Army spokesman in Srinagar said, the security forces are combing the area to flush out the remaining militants.
