Dangal emerges as highest-grossing Hindi movie

Mumbai, Jan 8 (IBNS): Releasing as the last major movie of the year, Aamir Khan and his Dangal kept its promise of impressing fans as the wrestling-based film has now emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film in the history of the country.

The film has earned Rs. 330.96 crore till Saturday.

In the process, Khan beat the record that was set by his own 2014 release "PK'.

"#Dangal hits double digits yet again on Sat... All set to cross #PK today [Sun]... [Week 3] Fri 6.66 cr, Sat 10.80 cr. Total: ₹ 330.96 cr," film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.

"With #Dangal emerging the HIGHEST GROSSER EVER [Hindi films] today [Sun], let's have a look at the TOP 5 HIGHEST GROSSERS of Hindi films," he said.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal is a biopic on India's foremost wrestling family, the Phogats.

It stars Aamir Khan as former Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and Fatima Sana Sheikh and Sanya Malhotra as wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat respectively.

Dangal released on Dec 23, 2016 in India.
